Gary Reichel (Cinecyde, vocalist)They basically hired the bands and marched them down to one of the Birmingham salons to get the punk rock haircuts. They had a slick flyer to give to club owners. “And we’ll handle everything. The three bands will all tour. We’ll use the same equipment. You don’t have to worry about time between bands.” That’s how they were selling it. And they had bigger aspirations than that. They wanted to get them signed.

The first wave of Detroit punk came quickly; the hometown of the MC5 and the Stooges was not going to let the people in New York and London have all the fun.  Cinecyde was in the forefront: “Gutlesss Radio/My Doll” was the first Detroit-based punk single and the label that they created, Tremor Records was a huge driving force in getting those early sounds out to the world. It’s hard to believe but Cinecyde and Tremor are still around and their latest single was issued in 2025.

The current Cinecyde lineup of Gary Reichel (vocals), Jim Olenski (guitar), Skid Mark (bass) and Danny Allen (drums) follows in the path of the original band which included Gary, Jim, Roger Wesch and Clay Albertson  Over the years Cinecyde was blessed with the talents of Chris Gerard (bass), Robert (Bootsey) Mulrooney and Diane Shroeder (drums) whose heart and spirit can still be felt in every show.

Cinecyde has issued seven albums and six singles.  Their label, Tremor Records, has more than 30 releases to their credit and six of these were compilations that include all the best of the Detroit punk scene. It’s certainly not an exaggeration to say that Cinecyde and Tremor were essential to bringing Detroit punk to the world.  Please support them and all of the other fine Detroit-area bands and let’s keep the motor city rocking.
